How To Use An Electronic Cigarette To Quit
Using an electronic cigarette to quit smoking may be more effective than it might seem. The electronic cigarette is definitely safer than tobacco cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes contain nicotine; they do not contain the carcinogens of tobacco cigarettes. The nicotine is stored as a liquid within the cartridge of the electronic cigarette. The cartridge is one of three parts. The other two parts include the battery and the atomizer.
The atomizer converts the liquid nicotine into vapor, and the battery provides the energy for the process to occur. Puffing the electronic cigarette makes the tip light and the atomizer produce vapor. Electronic cigarettes can help smokers quit because of the way they are made and the ingredients within them. Combining the use of an electronic cigarette to gradually replace tobacco cigarettes and reduce the amount of nicotine consumed forms the basis for a plan that a smoker can use to quit the habit permanently.
Electronic cigarettes serve as effective tools to quit smoking because they address the psychological addiction, as well as the physical addiction of a smoker. Other tobacco cessation products provide nicotine that allows the smoker to gradually reduce the level of nicotine consumed; however, the psychological triggers associated with smoking are often still powerful enough that the attempt to quit smoking fails. On the other hand, electronic cigarettes allow the smoker to simulate the smoking experience without the inhalation of dangerous substances. When the tool used to quit addresses both aspects of addiction that the smoker experiences, the attempt to quit is more likely to be successful. One study introduced by the International Journal of Clinical Practice demonstrates this effectiveness. One hundred users of electronic cigarettes were surveyed.
Most of the users were former smokers who had tried to quit an average of nine times. Traditional therapies to quit had been used by two-thirds of these participants. While these participants had failed in the attempt to quit smoking with traditional therapy, they achieved success when they replaced tobacco cigarettes with the electronic cigarette. When the use of an electronic cigarette is part of a plan to quit smoking that gradually reduces the use of tobacco cigarettes, followed by reducing the consumption of nicotine, smokers are more likely to quit smoking.
Any attempt to quit smoking should begin with a well-defined plan that includes alternatives to smoking when cravings occur, a timetable for nicotine reduction, and a nicotine replacement option. When using an electronic cigarette to quit smoking, the user should begin replacing tobacco cigarettes with electronic cigarettes at a pace that the smoker feels comfortable. For some, this will be one specific cigarette per week.
For others, it may be more. Smokers should reduce the number of tobacco cigarettes smoked until they are using only the electronic cigarette. At this point, they may begin to reduce the amount of nicotine in the cartridges which they purchase. Eventually, the cartridges should have no nicotine; although, this accomplishment may take some time. At this point, the physical addiction to nicotine will be broken. The former smoker may then wean themselves from the electronic cigarette with only the psychological addiction to address. Electronic cigarettes provide an avenue for smokers who wish to quit that addresses each aspect of the addictions smokers experience.
